Is someone close to you tying the knot soon? Congrats, to the soon to be newlyweds!
Attending the wedding of one of your nearest and dearest couples is one of life’s many social pleasures, and an occasion worthy of not only showing up in your best (and dancing the night away!), but also of bringing along a wonderful gift. When it comes to choosing the right gift for the happy couple, this can be both a fun and challenging endeavour! With my partner company, Weddingstar Inc., putting together the loveliest DIY gift basket for the happy couple has never been easier, thanks to beautiful and thoughtful products, endless personalization options, and Weddingstar’s never-ending commitment to everyday affordable pricing.

Before we get started: why should you choose to make a gift basket vs. a store-bought gift, cash or a gift card?
A thoughtful and meaningful wedding gift not only shows your love and support for their union, but also commemorates the special day in a memorable way. A carefully curated gift basket tailored to the couple’s unique tastes can be more than just a collection of items – this gift is a heartfelt way you can show your support in their new marriage, and express well-wishes to the happy couple in a way that a simple card may not.

By incorporating the couple’s tastes and shared interests, a well-designed gift basket quickly becomes the couple’s favourite, and most standout gift of the day. A treasure trove of cohesive pieces that keep the eye bouncing from one item to the next, creates an immersive experience for the couple that they will love as they open their gifts. You can tailor it to reflect their past and future adventures together, using a selection of familiar favourites and new goodies. Think; their favourite gourmet treats and wine, monogrammed keepsakes, home decor pieces, and other small finishing touches. A well-curated basket full of everyday items will help create memories for the couple to enjoy long after they’ve said ‘I do’.

Other perks to consider making a DIY gift basket for the next wedding you attend?
· They can be made to fit any budget, allowing you the freedom to shower your friends in gifts without overextending yourself financially
· They can be made with practicality in mind – by filling a basket with kitchen, dining, and bathroom accessories, your gift will not only bring a smile to their faces when they open it, but will also be handy in their everyday lives
· They are fun to make! Stretch your creative wings, and see what you can come up with

Step 1. Select a basket, box, bin, or container to build your gift basket in
Choose a container that matches the couple’s personal style, home, or the theme of the wedding. You can use a decorative home decor basket, rustic wooden crate, a printed paper gift box, picnic basket, or a galvanized tub, like the one we’ve used here. Below are two options you can try with Weddingstar.

Step 2: Line the basket
Fill the vessel with tissue paper, raffia, or even a home textile. A throw blanket, fabric napkins, or a table runner create a soft base to cushion the items you put into the basket, and also serve as bonus gifts they can use.

Step 3: Select the Gifted Items
Here are some product suggestions to find on Weddingstar’s website (and in this post!) that are perfect options to include in your wedding gift basket:
- Photo frames. Choose a frame or two featuring a romantic newlywed quote that the couple can display their favourite wedding and engagement photos in
- Wine glasses. If the couple enjoys a glass of wine on occasion, include a set of elegant wine glasses or champagne flutes for them to toast their future together with. Weddingstar carries many customizable options that you can even add their names and wedding date to!
- Decorative home items. Pick out a few decorative items that match the couple’s taste. Think candles, vases, tabletop trinkets, a jewelry tray for their new rings, etc.
- Personalized items. Along with the wine glasses, include personalized items such as monogrammed towels, engraved lighters, his and hers mugs, matching spa robes, and more
- Edible items. Include some gourmet treats such as chocolates, cookies, crackers, crisps, nuts, jellies and pickled items, along with a bottle of their favourite wine or bubbly. Often at the end of a wedding day, the newly married couple is famished from the day’s festivities. They may even crack open your basket and nosh while they open their other presents!

Step 4: Arrange the Items
After you have selected all of your gift basket items, arrange them in an aesthetically pleasing way throughout the container. Adjust the basket filler as you go and create layers with your products, to add height and dimension. Place taller items towards the back, and smaller items towards the front to create a nice balance. Pro tip: take photos as you assemble to see where adjustments should be made. Oftentimes the camera picks up on things our eyes don’t in person!

Step 5: Wrap and Decorate
When your arrangement is complete, consider wrapping the basket with cellophane, or a large fabric sack (you can decorate the outside if the items are hidden within!), and tie it with a luxe satin ribbon or oversized bow. Add a gift tag to the outside, or place a card within so the couple knows who it came from.

Step 6: Finishing Touches
If you’d like to add even more elegance to your basket, tie some faux flowers or greenery to the bow. This will give the gift basket an extra touch of freshness, and give it an allover ‘complete’ look.

Thank you for following along with this guide today! I hope this inspired you to get crafting for the next wedding you attend. Taking the time to curate a meaningful wedding gift is a great way to express your love and genuine happiness for the couple’s next chapter. Your gift basket is sure to leave a lasting impression on the couple years later, when they are still enjoying the contents within.
