DIY FLORAL CENTREPIECES WITH WEDDINGSTAR

While fresh flower centrepieces are undeniably stunning, there’s no denying that they can be an expensive addition to a wedding. A cost-effective solution for brides working with a tight budget? Giving DIY faux floral centrepieces a try! Artificial flowers have come a long way, and quality pieces are often indiscernible from fresh upon first glance (and most importantly, in photos). Making your wedding day centrepieces yourself is always great for a budget, and can even be a fun bridal party activity, if you choose to invite your friends over to aid you in this task.

Not only does making your own flower vases allow you to personalize your wedding decor to your exact specific tastes, they also offer several other benefits. Faux florals can be made far ahead in advance, easing your mind about how they will look or if there are any emergencies the day of. They are also a sturdier option opposed to delicate fresh blooms (that require careful handling). You can also sell your centrepieces on wedding resale sites, making much of the money back that you put into them!

You can also choose to gift the centrepieces to wedding guests on the day of, with no concern about returning vases to the event rental company (or worse, possibly having to pay extra if any guests slip out with rental pieces! It’s unfortunate, but does happen more often than you’d think).

In this guide, you’ll learn how to assemble these beautiful, affordable, and easy centrepieces that will make a stunning impact at your wedding. My partner company, Weddingstar Inc., has nearly everything you need to bring these beauties to life, including the vases, filler, and ribbons. The only thing left you’ll need is to head to your nearest craft store for the florals!

Weddingstar also carries wedding ceremony and reception decor, wedding party gifts like robes, jewelry, and day-of essentials, honeymoon products, and so much more. Browse the whole site while you’re picking up these necessities, as shipping is free over $99 in the USA, or $125 in Canada!

Are you ready to get your DIY on? Let’s do this!

You will need:

· Assorted faux florals in your wedding colours
· Assorted greenery stems (we suggest sticking to one colour family, in varying hues, like the grey-green palette we’ve chosen here)
· Floral accents such as pincushion proteas, lily of the valley, and heather
· Vases (1-2 per table)
· Vase wrap (moss trim, satin ribbon, and/or gem ribbon)
· Vase filler (such as river stones, pearls, gems, water beads or crystals)
· Transparent or double-sided tape
· A hot glue gun

Personalized Glass Cylinder Vase – Custom Text

Start with just the right vessels. We chose the classic glass cylinder for ours, but gilded bottles, hurricane vases, and mercury accents are all lovely choices as well.

Next, choose your filler. We opted for crystal water pearls, but classic white pearls, river stones, and marbles all make great fillers.

Pro tip: If you choose water crystals, don’t add water until the morning of your wedding. Ask 2-3 trusted friends or family members to fulfill this task, so you won’t have to worry about this part. You’ll be busy enough on your special day!

Faux Jewels – Small Roll, Roll Of Faux Moss Ribbon

If you would like to personalize your vases further, consider wrapping them in ribbons that match your wedding theme. Moss rolls, gems, or satin ribbons look wonderful set against a classic glass vase. Tape the ribbons to the vase, then secure the ends together with a hot glue gun. Exercise caution during this step, and remember the number one rule when using a hot glue gun: never glue above hands. Always aim the glue gun down, with hands safely above, to keep them safely away from any accidental drips.

Weddingstar has so many gorgeous ribbon options!

After your ribbons and filler are complete, now it’s time for the floral arranging. Begin by using the tape trick: create a grid/lattice pattern over the mouth of your vase. The stems will be much easier to arrange this way, and as a bonus, the stickiness of the tape will help to prevent the flowers from falling out during transit.

Before you begin arranging, strip all of the greenery from your faux florals. Don’t worry, you’ll be adding them back in, and they will look more natural this way!

When you are ready to begin arranging, start by adding the greenery stems to the vase. Symmetry is a good guideline, but don’t focus too much on perfection. Next, add your florals. Trim the ends if needed as you go, and follow this with the accent pieces. Finish the arrangements by tucking in a few of the leaves you stripped from the flower stems. You can adhere these to the sides of the flowers with a dab of hot glue, for an even sturdier arrangement.

And voila! Handmade, DIY centrepieces that will have guests commending your creativity and style. The best part? They will be one-of-a-kind, made just for your unique wedding!
